Applejack

She certainly hadn't prepared for it to be that much of a tangle. Applejack realized too late that the trap was a web snare and before she could slow her momentum, she ran right into it, tripping down into the ropes that constricted her hooves together. Jostled to the floor, Applejack struggled against the ropes; they barely strained against the mare's attempts to break free, but strain they did.

Short of breath, Applejack paused in her futile efforts to unravel herself to glare at Razma with more confusion. "What're ya talkin' about? He said that some gryphon was tryin' ta hurt him and he didn't know why..." She paused, taking in exactly what Razma was suggesting. "Why would a gryphon be after a ponyknapper?"

Razma reached into her pack again. This time, she pulled out a sheet of somewhat weathered paper, and an official-looking envelope. She held the paper in front of the mare's snout, giving it a slight wave. The face of the same pony that had begged for help from the "crazy" gryphon chasing him was staring back at her, with the word WANTED beneath in big black lettering.

"That pony you protect is wanted for kidnapping and attempted murder. I chased him here to fulfill a lawful bounty contract. It may take days before I can find him again."

"Like buck it'll take days!" Applejack grit her teeth, tightening her muscles until the ropes she was entangled in frayed , but they refused to release. "I'll get him personally for this...!"

She kicked at the floor angrily in her struggle. She'd fallen for some stupid helplessness routine. What was with this city and lies? Shaking her head and snorting like a bull, she took off in a run after the stallion she'd helped. She turned back toward Razma with a glare.

"Look, I'm sorry. I thought he was like... some other pony I met here before. But if ya'd kindly release me from this here rope, I'll go give him the bucking of his life for lyin' ta me."

"...I work alone. I don't need help to find him."

Razma released the ropes around the orange mare, shaking her head at their multiple frayed locations. The mare was clearly very strong, but Razma had also been using this rope for a long time, and badly needed to replace it. She just needed the next bounty's payout before she could.

"...I...do not know which way he went."

"Then looks like you're gonna hafta work with somepony this time, loner." She scanned the area, pointing to a market stand then the bench she'd passed a second ago in her run. "The fruit on the ground says he dropped it while runnin' away, havin' bumped into the stand. And see that bench? There's a puddle just behind it that everypony's been avoiding, but someone in a hurry ain't worryin' about water."

She stretched her joints and trotted to the puddle, and sure enough, leading off it were large-gaited hoofprints. "Someone's scramblin' to get through here fast - the hoofprints are uneven." She turned and arched a brow at Razma. "Work alone if'n ya want. It doesn't matter to me a bit. But me? I'm finding a liar, and you're welcome ta help me."

She turned and galloped, following the prints.

Razma followed the mare's deductions, impressed with her precision and accuracy, and her speed in immediately finding the new trail. Razma jumped into the air again, flying after the orange pony as she galloped away.

"There seems to be a disturbance in the crowds by that corner. He likely ran through there."

Using the advantage of flying over the crowds, Razma pushed ahead of the orange mare that had intervened and now forced herself into helping. She landed in front of some already-startled pedestrians and waved the wanted posted in front of them. "Which way?" After one of the stallions dumbly stared and pointed, Razma was on her way again without so much as a word of thanks, though there was a few coins left behind when she went. She flew above the crowds again, a position easy to be seen by her quarry, true, but also where the orange mare would find it no trouble to follow and keep up.

And keep up Applejack did with efficiency. She wasn't a flyer, but she also wasn't one to be slower than a flyer. She'd spent far too many years keeping up with Rainbow Dash to not be used to it. She galloped hard, pushing herself past a limit she thought was concrete, and even leaped over a young gathering of fillies who were trying to get ice cream from a vendor.

As she followed, something caught her eye: a kiwi spilled in an alley where there were no vendors. Someone from the market had been here. She whistled loudly, hoping the gryphon would catch it, as she halted her momentum and cautiously stood at the alley entrance.

"Y'all are cornered! Come on out."

As the orange mare covered the closest entrance to the alleyway, Razma flew ahead. The fugitive must have realized his deception had been broken, because he blanched at the sight of the other pony and tried to flee the other way, intending to scale the fence there if needed. He didn't get the chance, though, as Razma dropped down, directly in front of him. He looked between them desperately.

"C-come on, you w-wouldn't turn down a fellow pony over a f-filthy meateater like her...r-right?"

Razma lifted her head and took a deep breath. Her eyes locked on the fugitive, and she opened her beak, releasing a terrifying sound. Not a roar, but rather a hawk's ear-piercing scream, loud enough that the fugitive dropped to the ground and covered his ears.

"This hunt is over. It's time to pay for your crimes."

Applejack advanced on him, and as her speed picked up to a brisk trot, she reached him, reared back, and swung a hoof at his face at in the same motion. She paused, standing over the pony.

"I don't base my actions on species. I'm from Ponyville, and where I come from, we love and tolerate and celebrate the different strengths we all bring to the table. I trust the one of you that's tellin' me the truth. And right now, that's her." She nodded her head at Razma. "Because she's right. Y'all are paying for your crimes."

As the stallion skid across the ground, Razma was waiting. As were her ropes. Before he could recover from the blow, she was already tying him up, hobbling his movement. He struggled at first, but that ended quickly when she put a claw to his throat.

"You...ugh...w-when I get free I'm gon-" His words were muffled by a length of rope tied around his muzzle, keeping him from speaking.

"Shut up." She turned her eyes to the pony who had assisted her. True, she had gotten in the way at first, but... "Thirteen years. You were the first to be able to keep up with me in this sort of work. It was like hunting with my family again." A brief shadow of pain flickered across the gryphon's face as she spoke, but it soon faded into the same iron she had before. "Since you did help me...my name is Razma. Where could I deliver the money?
