Applejack exited the tailor and entered the crowded road. She found bench filled with other ponies, waiting for a wagoncart that served as public transport around the bustling city of Manehattan. The bench full, she sat beside it instead, looking behind her at a storefront window to gaze at her new reflection. She wore the same old hat in brown leather, but had gotten it dyed to a darker shade and banded, fitted better. It was always too big on her, a result of it not really being her hat. She was just a filly at the time. She'd gone away to Manehattan to find herself, and returned home with a cutie mark, having a wild story of following a rainbow all the way back to Sweet Apple Acres. She'd spent a delightful day reuniting with the family she'd bid farewell to months before, but that night, Big Macintosh found his little sister knocking on his bedroom door, and opened it to find the filly crying awful big tears for such a tiny foal. It was rare that he had to initiate the conversation with Applejack - she was such a talker. But this time he risked a "What's wrong...?" and she'd just hugged him and asked if she could sleep in his room that night. That she didn't want to be alone. How could he not oblige? He gave her his bed, and spent the night tossing on the floor only to wake up later to find she'd curled up beside him, shivering and whimpering on the hardwood. They fell asleep in a pile. At morning, they sat out on the planed roof outside his bedroom window and talked as they watched the sunrise. Ever since their parents died, Applejack had felt so isolated. She wanted to make something of herself, and Manehattan was her chance to find an identity that didn't revolve around a broken family. She was scared. Scared of the day Granny would be gone, too, and she and Big Mac would be left alone to try to teach Apple Bloom lessons that neither had gotten from their parents. And that's the day that Big Mac shared a big secret with his little sister. He was scared too. And he gave her a present. Something that belonged to their father, passed down to him before their parents left on a trip they never returned from. Something their father had told Big Mac was magical. That it made the wearer braver. And as long as she wore it, she didn't have to be afraid, because her family was always above her, watching over. She took off the hat and stared at it, rather than its reflection. She'd changed the outside, but she asked them to leave the stitching untouched inside the brim. Inside, her father had etched his cutie mark. And Big Mac's was alongside it. And beside that was hers, drawn by a scared filly trying to be brave. AJ replaced the hat, returning to her reflection. She trailed down to the bandana she had bought, because it was the same pink as her baby sister's bow. To the dark burned leather duster thrown over her body, fitted with another pink sash over her stomach. She took a step, feeling the new clothes out. Everything felt comfortable, fitting, like her own fur had just grown out. She wore it like she wore her freckles - everything was an accent. Some tribute of herself worn for her own sake. She flicked her tail, now banded twice with pink wrappings, then looked at the lasso she now wore outside the duster, saddlebag only hanging on the other side. This would work. This new look felt proper. She's wear her family close to her chest now. She took a moment, then started galloping down the street, as fast as she could. The training over these last few months had been paying off, and her training every night once Twilight fell asleep was becoming habit. She was shedding off weight, melting down to the bones then building up again as muscle. Her back legs were powerful again, stronger than before. She had a spring in her gallop, carried by toned haunches. She'd grown into a mare that Big Mac might be proud of, and she carried a bit of her brother's countenance now as she galloped, getting in her daily exercise through the Manehattan roads. There was a patter of hooves on pavement as the crowd was disturbed, a scraggly earth pony stallion galloping down the road. He took no care as ponies around him. dove away, some dropping their belongings and hurrying to gather them before they disappeared, while others scowled and shouted obscenities after the grey-coated stallion. He looked over his shoulder for a moment, and came to a very sudden stop. A very sudden stop caused by his collision with Applejack. He bounced back, falling to the ground with a wince. However, when he looked over the mare he had collided with, one who certainly looked more than capable of taking care of problems, his eyes went wide. "M-miss! You have to help me! I'm being chased by this crazy gryphon and I don't know why! I swear she's going to kill me if she catches me!" ~~ Normally, finding her quarry when it fled into a large city was difficult. Too many ways and places to go into hiding. Tracks weren't reliable, not with so many other ponies running around, so it was necessary to find witnesses who had seen the quarry, not an easy task for one who preferred to stay alone at all possible times. And more than anything, even after years in Equestria, Razma had never truly become used to cities. But it didn't matter. Wherever her prey ran, she would follow. And so she had. She had tracked a foalnapper to Manehattan after helping find and recover the lost colt, and had arrived hot on his hooves. It seemed likely that this pursuit would end soon. The fool she chased had not exactly made much attempt to blend in, electing to simply continue fleeing as fast as he could, causing a great commotion in the process. Razma felt something like satisfaction at the clear trail left for her to follow. |

Applejack picked up her hat rather calmly, lost in the collision with the stallion. Like with most other ponies, she was a might taller than him, and as she replaced her hat atop her head, she looked down at him with a careful expression. She'd heard of gryphons but she'd sure never seen one in the feathers. What she did know from Granny Smith's tales was that they were violent creatures. "Whoa now. Slow down, friend." She adjusted her clothing until it was righted again. Someone needed her help... and she'd made a vow to offer just that to this city ever since meeting Mirage. "Now there ain't a thing that panicking is gonna getcha but the thing your runnin' from. Now don'tchu worry. Nobody's going to be hurtin' nopony while I'm around to stop it." She braced herself, shaking off the fatigue of her running session. Edited by Applejack, Wed Jan 1, 2014 11:44 am.

"Oh, thank you! I...oh, stars, there she is! She's coming for me! Please, help!" The stallion scrambled behind Applejack, his eyes wide at the sight of a brown and tawny figure ascending into the air, sharp yellow eyes quickly locking on him. ~~ There. Razma caught sight of the kidnapper, just for a moment, but that moment was all she needed. She crouched down for a moment, her back legs coiling beneath her. She leaped into the air, wings spreading, and instantly saw her prey. There were many ponies around, but it didn't matter. Razma did have the affidavit indicating that she was acting in the lawful manner of an officially hired bounty hunter, and she had no time to waste before he tried to escape again. Any questions could be answered after she had him safely bound. She folded her wings in and dove at her quarry, claws outstretched. |

"You wait until I got her distracted, then you go hide, alright?" She adjusted her hat up so she could see the sky better for this gryphon. Without hesitation, she darted forward, taking the lasso up on her tail and spinning it into a perfect circle. As the creature passed over her, she flung it upward, aiming to wrap Razma's claws up and pull her down with em by pulling the rope with her teeth. Edited by Applejack, Sun Jan 5, 2014 10:54 am.

The stallion nodded. As Applejack stepped forward to throw her rope at the gryphon, he darted away, disappearing into the crowds. As he ran around a corner, he allowed himself a small smile. ~~ There was a sudden yank on her claws, pulling Razma from the sky. She looked down, and to her surprise saw that her claws had been tied together with a lasso of some sort. As she hit the pavement, she rolled, and brought her claws up to her beak, snapping through the rope with a single bite. She turned her head, looking for the stallion, before her eyes fell to the orange mare that held a rope in her teeth. "Stay out of this!" She said, her voice carrying a slight hissing accent. She turned her head away again, spreading her wings to chase after her quarry. |

"Not a chance!" Applejack grit her teeth. "Ya'll best leave that critter alone before you have a real problem on your hooves.... claws." She galloped toward Razma again, bringing the end of the rope down like a frayed bullwhip to startle the gryphon into attacking her instead of looking for the target. Applejack would have to play The Tank for now, if it meant keeping someone else safe. |

Razma growled at the orange pony that continued to interfere with her hunt. She thrust a claw into her packs and pulled out a length of rope of her own, one sized for tying up ponies, with the end fashioned into a lasso much like the one Applejack had thrown at her. Trying to fly would just get Razma roped again, so if the mare wasn't going to stand down, she'd have to be dealt with first. "Last warning! |

"Last warning for you! You leave that pony alone or I'll make it my business to keep ya from 'im. Ain't no gryphon gonna go ponyknappin' on my watch...!" She leaned her head down, running straight for Razma, focusing on her intently. She had a rope, that much AJ knew. But Applejack also knew she could take her, because she was stronger than she ever was. |

Razma threw out the rope, tracing something like a web on the ground around the orange mare's hooves. As she charged, Razma flapped her wings and jumped away, pulling on the rope to tighten it, hoping to tangle the mare's legs together. "I am no ponynapper. If that is what you seek, look for the one you protect." |
