Kite batted the hoof away from her, "I'll tell you right now, there is no way in hell that you would be able to afford seeing your own file. Your debt is staggering and your finances are nowhere near my minimum. Some of your friends might be able to view a paragraph or two depending on the content they wish to see, but I wouldn't do business with you if my life depended on it."

She pounded the rest of her drink and slammed it on the bar, "However," she said as she looked towards the other mare, a devious smile playing on her face, "Knowledge isn't something that actually holds any monetary value. My prices go up and down depending on just how valuable or readily available the information I require is. I have your file, and only I know how much it contains, but what it contains is not what my current client needs and they are willing to pay a much larger sum to get that piece of knowledge than you would be able to afford in a hundred lifetimes.

"With that in mind, I will allow you to see this tiny part of your file in exchange for giving me what I came to this bar for," she waved the bar tender down once more to have him take away her empty glass, "So, what do you say?"

Guh…! Why did you even MENTION it then?” Ruby yelled out, feeling her one solution for figuring out who this mare worked for slipping out of her reach. She felt like somepony’s gullible pet being teased with candies and treats. She had clearly lost any sense of a laid-back composure in that moment.

No, no, no… Can’t let this bitch win like this… Ruby drilled to herself, her hoof pressed to her face.

The next couple of seconds were nothing but silence. Ruby had no idea what this mare’s employer wanted out of her… but would it be worth exposing just to get the information she needed? Trying to decide, she tapped her hoof repeatedly against the bar counter—when out of nowhere, it came to her.

Wait… How would she even know my debt is so large if she didn’t already work for The Shrouded Blade…? Ruby began to theorize, connecting the scattered puzzle pieces in her head.

Everypony knew The Shrouded Blade was famous for its secrets, after all. Just the fact that she was aware of that private business suggested she was a part of them. Perhaps she had simply bought it off of them, but still… the famous thieves’ guild wasn’t known to do business with just anypony.

“What do you want and who wants it?” Ruby spoke with a straight face and a firm tone, removing her hoof from her head as she turned back toward Kite.

"Why wouldn't I mention it when it obviously causes you so much aggravation," Kite said as a smile played on her lips. She had gotten her with a tried and true tactic. Tease them with how much you know about them to have them fill in the gaps.

"What I need to know is your plan, you can't just dodge your debtors forever," she said as she turned towards Ruby, "Eventually they'll find you and they'll either beat the money out of you or they'll kill you, and you know it. So where are you planning to go, who are your contacts, where you're going to get the money to pay your way out. Also, if you've still managed to not think of a plan, then I would think of one as soon as possible. I've gotten enough notes on your current movements to ensure that there isn't a safe place for you to go in all of Equestria. You may have been able to dodge them up till now, but don't think it's going to last forever."

Kite stretched on the bar stool, "As for who my client is," she said with a smirk, "That really doesn't concern you."

For one moment, the cheekbones on her face only seemed to stress up more… but then, it dawned to her: they didn’t call that division of The Shrouded Blade Silvertongue for nothing. Immediately, her facial features loosened up as she couldn’t help but release a few light chuckles.

Just because she claimed to possess all of this information didn’t mean it all existed, she realized. Or at the very least, the bountiful information she possessed couldn’t have possibly been as large as she made it out to be. She rolled her eyes as Kite went on about “plans” and how impossible it would ever be for her to run away from the guild and her debts. Ruby Nights was a prodigy thief trained by the best and most envious of them all. When it came to slipping out of bad situations, money wasn’t her concern.

Silvertongue… I presume?” Ruby guessed as to which division of The Shrouded Blade this mare belonged. The tension removed from her posture, the treasure hunter mare got from out of her seat, prepared to leave. “You know… you lied to me earlier, Kite. You had me fooled otherwise, but you’re awfully intimidating with the boundless amounts of information you pretend to possess~”

With a careless and haughty expression, she took a couple of steps away from the counter. Turning once more, she paused just to leave Kite with one final word.

“But if you really wanted keep your employer a secret… you really shouldn’t have gone on about MY personal business with The Shrouded Blade,” Ruby added, wearing a very wide grin. “They aren’t one to expose secrets to outsiders, ya’ know? It really gives it away that you’re one of them.”

Continuing in her march out of the bar, she did turn to face the information broker one last time. Her hoof raised, she told her goodbye without the need for words.

“As for my plans… I’d prefer to surprise you~” Ruby finished, busting through the pub’s front door.
