"... yea, sure, Aerie," he pattered her arms before pulling out of the hug. Ignoring her misuse of the idiom, he added, "We're on the good side of bad karma now, babe. Just want everyone to be home so I can know for sure that everyone's okay.. I don't like the link silence ever since her last message. I could hear people shouting. Weapons." He clutched his linkpearl tightly and grimaced. "Skylark and Lighty can take care of themselves, I know it. But I can help if they just get home." |

DANCING ON, DANCING ON, DANCING ON RAIN---
|
The door slammed open, and Leon pressed himself against the frame, ushering Eponine in ahead of him then shutting it again. He remained there, bolting, chaining, bracing, and locking systematically all of the door's defenses. Like the others had done, he placed a linkpearl on the floor in front the door after activating it then went around the room securing each door, each window, setting a pearl down on all external routes, and finally, activating any defenses the entryway had. Hopper had been busy before this mess doing what Gimmicks did best: making pranks. Some of the windows had small zapping devices attached to their metal handles. There were trip wires attached to vials of tar or small vials of knockout potion attached to door frames, where opening the door would break the glass. He spoke as he set the room. "Aydan's put a hit out on us. Big one. Half the city is out to get us and they know where we live." Stupid, he chastised himself. Stupid to not have hidden their base. "Come on. Secure as we go, hit every room. Aerie top floor, go. I'll take main. Dwayne basement. Eponine--" Edited by Krisabelle, Wed Nov 30, 2016 7:38 pm.

One by one, in sequence clockwise, every window slammed shut, every trap rigged, doors slammed shut, locked, furniture slid to brace bigger risks. Eponine's eyes were whited out. Her hand clutched madly at a strand of loose hair, digging her nails into her roots. The bag of linkpearls Leon had flew off his belt and landed on the floor, each pearl rolling into position at entrances, warning signals. Upstairs, they could hear the sound of windows and doors shutting. After a minute, there was but silence. Eponine stopped, relaxed, fell to her knees on the ground, and looked up at the empty ceiling to nod at... nothing. She was lifted off the ground, levitating limply to the stairs, where she stopped to say, "Court is secured. Hopper's room." And then she was gone, sliding up the stairs without her feet making contact with the ground, just her cloak dragging along the steps. Edited by Fethur, Thu Dec 1, 2016 11:09 am.

"I-- but--- we--- I just------" She winced with each door closing and didn't move except to watch Eponine leave the room. "..... Hopper's room then....?" She flew and landed beside Leon, looking him over for injury. Not finding anything significant, she sighed, nodded toward the stairs, and flew up the stairwell after her friend. "Eponine, slow down! I need to know if you are unhaaaaarmed!" |

"Yeah, we're fine here," Dwayne called up the stairs after Eponine. "Thanks for asking! Glad to see you good too. Don't worry about a thing." He rolled his eyes, but looked at one of the sealed doors, testing it. It worked. Raised his brows. Not bad, Nine. "So what do we do, Leon?" Leo was always the one Dwayne would turn to for leadership. He was the oldest. Leon was the one with the plan. "We gotta protect the kids." |

"T-that's the problem," Leon clenched his fist so hard he winced. He didn't turn to look at Dwayne but instead kept walking up the stairs after the girls. "We're all kids. When you break it down, it's a bunch of snot-nosed brats against an army of mercs." Each step was heavy, stomping. "We do what we do best, Stone. We crash through them and make a path. You keep trampling us a trail, I take left flank. Gimm--- I'll take both flanks. Airheart has the skies. And Lamplight.. she'll take Hopper. She's the only one who can move him in this condition. We move to the basement. The tunnels. You can break a wall, bend a pipe, get us to the sewers. I can navigate us outside the city. Far enough down coast that they won't be looking there." |

"Shit.." Dwayne muttered under his breath. "We're really doing this... huh." He followed, stretching out his arms and doing a few practice punches on his way up. |

Those kids were fast, really fast but not fast enough to lose them. The crowd they had gathered were twenty strong for the moment. Word was spreading fast about the big money on these kids head. Simple rule, bring the one with the messed up arm alive. Kill the others, easy money for offing a bunch of kids. Armed with fire axes, crude knives, chain wrapped baseball bats, metal pipes and whatever wasn't nailed down. One of the scruffy looking men pointed to building before them. "They went in there. Bust down the door and rush them. Easy money for us all. Let's move before more get here. I don't want to split it up too much." A cheer rang out as they all ran towards the front door swinging wildly at the frame to try to knock it down. Some of them swinging into each other knocking one of them down but already whipped up into a greedy frenzy. |

"Hnn... ha....nnng" Hopper tossed in bed, burying his face into the pillow. He groaned in pain, tearing at the poor pillow until feathers were everywhere. He gnawed at the corner of it still, eyes tight shut. It was so... so loud. Oh god, it was so loud. The squishing, crawling of bugs, climbing over each other, in his hair, in his ear dums... he fidgeted, turning to face the wall, then laying flat prone on his back in cold sweat and staring wide at the ceiling. The sounds were drilling in. His chest heaved, back arched as he pushed off the bed until only his shoulders and toes were touching the mattress. He flopped back down in a winded huff. "Nn... Aer...ie...." he could've sworn he'd shouted but it was a breathy whisper. "G-guys... f-funny..." He tossed again, tangling himself in his blankets until he tripped out of the bed. He reach..reached up toward Grass' tail. Grass, his mind spoke clearly through the noise. Wake up... I need help.. get help. The little gryphon peered over the bed at him chuffing like a tiger, and bound off and out the bedroom door. Hopper's hand clawed at the fitted sheets to pull himself off the floor but the body was lead now. He focused blurry vision... on a patch of ceiling... darker than the rest of the white trim. It seemed to get bigger, pulse, ripple off the plaster and take form as a bloated, clinging hand reaching down toward Hopper. He felt feverish. Hopper's breathing grew to a sharp scream that never left his throat. The hand reached down, stretching...? melting from the ceiling toward him until it broke at the elbow and splashed down on him, blackening the room. This time the scream reached the air. |

The dark hand covered his face, suffocating him, blinding, every sense blotted out in the darkness. And when it pulled back, there she was. Eponine was knelt beside him cradling Hopper's head with a careful hand and pulling him onto her knees and against her shoulder. Magic wisp around her hand in strange whispers as she passed it over his eyes, down his throat and stopped at his heart. "Stop screaming, you're hallucinating." She said it so frustratingly calm. No emotion. "You're being annoying. It was her own fault, she supposed. She'd set a spell on him, a guardian to watch over him while she was away and report back his condition. All it asked in return was to feed on his illness; it preferred rotting, viral things. Seemed a fair trade. It slowly makes the fever from his infection better - and oh the wing was so infected - and in return, she gets a way to read his condition without intruding into his poor, delirious mind. She frowned. Never trust an old one to keep their bargains. It'd grown hungry as Hopper neared recovery and was trying to keep him sick now. Drag him under. She kept her hand on him until a line of smoke billowed out of his chest. She palmed it, made a fist. It crunched. Her magic aura'd his body and she found him easy to lift now. She carried him like a tired child, draping him across both her arms, his head in the crook of her shoulder. He'd be alright. He probably wouldn't even remember this dream. "The others are here and we need to go, Hopper. I need you to stay awake for me. It's going to get messy as we move, and I can't have your sanity to worry after during a fight. Best you don't sleep again until I can fully remove the parasite." She stood, looking down at Grass, bidding the gryphon to ride on her shoulder. Edited by Fethur, Thu Dec 1, 2016 11:10 am.
