Anima Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could've gone any differently. But there exists monsters among the men who feed on regret. And once upon a time, a princess hoped for more than forgiveness. She pulled out her own heart and held it aloft like one checks a timepiece before wishing for a world worth more than apologies. Hoping to bay the darkness, it filled the abyss of her heart instead and burst forth into the kingdom, breaking her to pieces. The princess spent lifetimes stitching her parts back together as closely to her former self as art can imitate life. But then they say the fabric leftover fits squarely over the hole in her chest. Moderator note: Anima serves as the proper term for this species. Fae refer to them as plats or platinums as the most common reference. While mirroring racism, it is not considered racist (to anyone but an anima) to refer to them by the colloquialism. If your character does not have at least an exceptional skill in bestiary knowledge or personally has reason to refuse to call them plats, your character probably calls them plats. Is this racist? Kinda. Is it godmodding to empathize with what is a literal horror-movie-type monster because the -writer- doesn't want to use the racial term? Also yes. APPEARANCE Size: They match the typical size of fae. Type: Other (having a type would require a warm body) Sound/ Cry: Common Color Range: Pale almost-white skin, and silver hair with any color of eyes. All anima are heterochromic. Defining Features: Anima are extremely pale, and always have silver hair in their natural state, with one perfect side of their hair being a vibrant color instead in otherwise perfect symmetry. They appear to be almost fae-like, except for a few key differences: their skin is unnaturally cold. Anima have large, glossy eyes with off-colors and a slight glow. They have no tail nor wings, nor sigil, but still have the same pointed ears of fae. There is a visible line at each of their joints (shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, ankle) that appears like silver string sewn under the skin; the string appears to glow when anima fly. Anima dress in classic lolita, with big victorian outfits, broad skirts, tights, cogs or boots, bonnets, and bows. PERSONALITY Alignment: Sentient Aggression Level: Defensive Defining Behavior: Anima are the master of mimicry. They all have access to the same illusory spells that allow them to alter their body to look, and sound exactly like another person even after only one sighting of the person. Any acting performed during the illusion is up to the skill of the individual anima. Aesthetic changes to body or clothing during the illusion make the viewer also feel the correct fabric/body type when touching the anima, except for the deathly cold skin, and a little bumpy ridge along their joints where their threaded veins are knotted. Those features can always be felt through the illusion magic as they are the source of the anima's spell casting. Anima are empaths, able to feel emotion and feed on emotion as a food source. Negative emotions physically injure the anima, and so they do their best to create happy emotions, with love being the strongest source. CAPABILITIES Skills: Once someone expresses genuine love toward (the person that the anima is pretending to be), the anima's empath skill can be used to brainwash the subject of their affection, dropping their victim into a dream trance that freezes the victim's emotional state into the last one they expressed. Victims remain in a waking dream where reality is twisted to give the illusion that whatever they are doing is positive, lovely, and they are with their loved one. Most victims find themselves returning to whatever is considered their happiest memory, on replay, in only their minds, while the anima is free to control their body. Anima typically keep victims as pets, using them as a food source whenever necessary. Spiteful anima are known to kill the victim once bored with them, leaving their bodies on the doorsteps of forlorn loved ones. Anima are also known for eating fae hearts, as it is considered the source of emotion. Weaknesses: Anima are physically weak. Weak like porcelain, cheap glass, or that one momento you bought at the airport in Hong Kong and tried to take home thinking it'd be fine in the luggage compartment of a third world country's airline handlers. No matter the physical form they imitate, anima are never stronger than their true form, which is run almost entirely on magic rather than real musclework. HABITAT: Biome: Somewhere deep in the Wildwood where you dare not enter safely. Nest/Territory traits: Their territory is often marked by spiderwebs, except upon closer imspection of the webbing, it's made of simple woven thread and twine. Diet: Other (emooooooshuuunnnnnsss) Prey: Other sentient species Predators: The kemera of Death is pretty intent on killing them all? |
