Faerie (pl. Fae) Long ago, we once existed as separate species. We even looked far different than we do today. But we always worked together... to raise the sun, to sow the seeds, to nourish the land. It was a treaty of convenience. And one day, a great winter - cold as our hearts - covered the land, tucking it under a thick blanket of deathly snow. And in our final moments, we banded together once more, throwing our magics together in harmony. So thankful were we to have survived that when the cold thawed, so too did our hearts warm. We stayed together, this time as friends. APPEARANCE Size: Fae share the range of human heights and proportions. Type: Mammal Sound/ Cry: Common, a language that exists as the common ground between the three species that joined to become the fae. Color Range: Skin ranges through human tones. Hair/eyes ranges through the visible spectrum. Defining Features: All have pointed ears and vibrant eyes. [Variants by race are discussed in their separate pages.] Strella (mutation: Goetian) Icara (mutation: Wyvre) Flor (mutation: Melia) Kemera NAMING CONVENTION Fae are named based on the culture they belong to. To find your culture, pair your race with your birth location or the location your parents hail from and pick a name that uses at least one rule from your race*, and one rule from your location**. Strellan names (first name and family name combined) are meant to sound like spell names when said aloud, and usually a spell related to your family's talent spectrum. Icarai are given quick names with as few syllables as possible, and often contain harsh consonants. This is to limit communication errors in regions with high wind and strong weather. Icarai are also more profession oriented (family is not a value) and so are given epithets either before or after their given name related to their talents or usefulness to the flock. Icarai have no last names. Flor names are related to the season in which they were born. This means anything from actual seasons to months to the alignment of the stars at the time, to the plants in-season. Their first name can always be traced back to a plant, even if their name is only a reference toward it. Their last names are always introduced with "of" <family name> to suggest their dedication. Family names typically reference their crest. * Dusted races use the cultural rule of their former race ** If you were born in an unlisted territory within Lyria, choose the city closest to yours and use its cultural influence. PERSONALITY Alignment: Sentient Aggression Level: Most sentient creatures are very defensive. Defining Behavior: Fae are the product of Lyrian harmony magic. When the three races combined into a single species after bonding to the Tree of Harmony, they adopted kindship to natural magics: of the earth's bounty, of the sky's refreshment, and of the heavens' light. Fae are magical creatures, reborn to embody the magic that governs the laws here in Lyria. CAPABILITIES [Please see individual race pages.] HABITAT: Biome: Thanks to the modern wonders of tailoring and magic, fae have access to any and all regions thanks to magic, clothing, and determination. Nest/Territory traits: Fae are colonial and communal. They form villages and cities and herds (see: cliques) instinctively for survival and social needs. If tracking one in a heavily forested or crowded pathway, look for hair or clothing to get snagged on branches; their colorful hair is spotted easily against dirt and stone and wood. They leave very obvious footprints where they walk on soft terrain. Diet: Omnivore; fae rely heavily on farmers and hunters to provide accessible meals. Fae eat a mostly pescetarian diet thanks to the natural bounty of Lyria's rivers, oceans, lakes, and flora. Small game or any meat is considered a rare delicacy.[Please see individual race pages for cultural differences.] Prey: Fish. Fae are apex predators of any region they live in, and can become a threat to any prey for food or fur. Predators: Almost any animal marked as both hostile and wild becomes a predator to an unprepared fae in that region. |
