Sylfies

A wind spirit that travels far and wide across the world, Sylfies are welcome in many environments for their intrinsic magical properties. Sylfies are native to the air, and though nomadic, they can spend great amounts of time in the one region if they decide such, maintaining the environment to their favour. Sylfies are invisible in light cloud cover, but are weakened by the presence of fire, water or earth, so they alter the winds and rains to keep their strength. In most countries of the world, this is seen as a benefit, save for Equestria – where Sylfies regularly disrupt and stymie ponies’ environmental control.

APPEARANCE
Size: About half the size of a pony in height, though matching them In length from head to tail.
Type: Spirit – while showing mammalian properties in their appearance, Sylfies are a distinctly magical entity.
Sound/ Cry: Higher pitch feline noises, though they’re not often very vocal.
Color Range: They vary from pure white to mid-range greys, usually to match the quality of cloud they favour. Regardless of coat shade, they emit a soft white glow whether visible or not, often spotted as a racing light through cloudcover.
Defining Features: Takes the appearance of a large nebelung cat, with the sole exception of four ribbon-like extensions of fur that can be from three to twelve feet long, two protruding from behind the ears and two from the fore shoulderblades. Sylfies are always clean and rarely if ever touch the ground. Their eyes lack any definable features, projecting soft, even light to match the glow of their fur.

PERSONALITY
Alignment: Wild
Aggression Level: Passive
Defining Behavior: Migratory and lazy, save for when their environment is altered. They disrupt and break up heavy clouds, cause high winds, gather light cloud cover in static locations and warm snow and sleet into light rains. The only nature of Sylfies that seems to override their lazy and carefree nature is an obsession with their own reflection. Often Sylfies will create areas of still water by manipulating winds entirely to fawn over their own image for hours on end.

CAPABILITIES
Skills: Weather manipulation. Physical weapons cannot harm them, nor can most magic. In essence, the fact that they’re a spirit makes them immune to most forms of injury.
Weaknesses: Mirrors are a ridiculous weakness to the Sylfies’ vanity, to the point of ignoring present dangers to the Sylfie until they are actually harmed. As for what harms them, as a wind spirit other elements are inimical to them. Water robs them of their flight, and earth traps them, as they are unable to manipulate it even via plain force. While Sylfies cannot be killed, they can be forced to give up their manifestation in the physical world temporarily, either by being buried, submerged, or by direct contact to fire, which unlike other elements simply weakens them until they are forced to disappear.

HABITAT:
Biome The sky! Sylfies travel far and wide but they tend to localise themselves high above ground, in warmer climates where their favored weather is easy to come by. At ground levels they prefer still air and still water, and their lack of significant predators means they can appear in any area with environmental traits they find favorable.
Nest/Territory traits: Sylfie habitats are incredibly obvious. Their habit of gathering clouds but restricting rainfall means that they produce large cumulonimbus cloud stacks that are conspicuously free of lightning, thunder and thunderstorms that are usual for such structures.
Diet: Sylfies don't have a diet in the strictest sense, drinking moonlight and consuming magical energy.
Prey: Beings of magical energy are often targeted for predatory cat-actions and a traumatic chewing if caught, but Sylfies rarely prey upon anything living with the intent of causing death.
Predators: Tragically, the only threat to sylfies in the world appears in the form of equines. Unlike every other culture in the known world, ponies tend to their environments like the sylfies do, and the two regularly come to blows over the tending of the sky and land. Without proper knowledge of the creatures, many attempts at removal can cause great distress to sylfies without outright removing them. Besides clashing with culture, Sylfies only fear the deadly bite of a falling rainstorm, or similar watery turmoil.
