It had taken awhile but he had finally had things set up. The bits had been gathered along with all those who worked for him. Shaker Down stood before the gathering of ponies in his largest warehouse along the docks. He had sent a few runners out earlier to pass the word on the street. "Alright boys you what's up. I've grown tired of interferences and certain ponies sticking their nose into my business. I am offering a chance open to any pony in the city. Five million bits, clean with no strings attached, dead or alive, for the so called heroes of this city. A gryphon is among them, small little shit and maybe an older bounty hunter gryphon. Bring them to me, if you can make them suffer then I will make it ten million. If any pony can manage to bring the little bird to me alive then I will double that. I want him to see what he caused. I want this city to tear itself apart and turn on them like a pack of wild dogs. I want this burned into all of their minds, and I want them to know that this is the price of crossing me." He paced a little before taking a deep breath, a dangerous glint in his eye that made the others take step back from him. It was rare to see their boss so worked up about this but the amount offered to just bring in some kids seemed easy. By now other ponies were starting to get the idea. "Get out there, get ponies involved. Flush them out like rats. Let's see them play heroes to a city that will eat them alive. All in all....this is gonna be a fun night boys. Get moving." |

The only pony present who didn't seem intimidated by Shaker's intensity was Backdraft. He watched their boys head out into the night, ready to spread the word of the bounty on the bounty hunter and her friends. Soon enough, only the top gangsters were left, standing together alone. "Well, our cards are laid bare now. I still don't like it. Five million bits...there are ponies in this town that would pay that if it meant getting one over on you." Everypony in the city would know that Shaker had enemies. Backdraft had little doubt in her mind that not everyone would find themselves so inflamed with greed as Shaker hoped. He just didn't understand how the "moral" ponies worked sometimes. |

"I know all about those who would rather help those little shits. I am counting on that. Helps flush out the rats that I don't want around." Shaker moved to walk back to his office to gather the rest of his things. He motioned for Backdraft to follow after him. Moving into the lavish office, the gangster moved to gather his hammer along with the files around his desk. This was going to be a long night, but hunting was fun. Especially when it's personal. He had a personal stake in it and wanted to be there when the proverbial guillotine falls onto their necks. "Come on Backdraft. I'm giving you full range to shell with impunity when you spot the kids. A chance to cut loose. Let's show them we handled so called heroes." |

DANCING ON, DANCING ON, DANCING ON RAIN---
|
KEY [Zo] Zox [Kr] Krisabelle [Fe] Fethur [Zo] The streets and alleyways of the city had been more active as of late. There was whispered words of something big going down but ponies had been tight lipped about what it was. There was an air of unease abound the streets and the rise of violence was starting to become more noticeable. Even the common gangs had seemed to catch wind of something. More ponies were being found beaten in alleyways with no rhyme or reason and nothing of value was taken from them. On this night another pony was being beaten, surrounded by three larger earth ponies, pleading and calling for help into the darkened alleyways. [Kr] Skylark swooped down into the alleyway, hoof beating hard against one pony's jaw. He backflipped off the attacker's face - knocking a few teeth out - landing before the victim in a crouch before smirking up at the other two as he resumed his battle stance. "Don't you know crime doesn't pay?" he said half growled, grinning. "But you might get a few coins under your pillow tonight if you go to sleep for me." [Fe] Lamplight soundlessly apparates under a street lamp nearby. It flickers, like a tremble, and blinks out, shattering with a loud piercing cry. She stays there, hood drawn up, magic glowing around her, shards of glass hovering in the magic across her form like dust in a beam of sunlight, catching and floating witness to her small movements that shift them as she walks forward. Her eyes are clearly visible, an inverted shade to her usual red, the sclera a sickening blackness that has gained some unseen depth to them as the pupils roll in the direction of the assailants. She stops before them, unflinching, unmoving, tandem to Skylark's anima, she is a still pond, a quiet fish waiting for something to ripple the surface so she may part the sea. And those rolling voids of her eyes blink steadily at each pony in turn, wondering who is brave enough... to run for his life. [Zo] The remaining ponies who were still conscious looked on in surprised at the two interlopers before them. Their whole bodies tensed seeing how easy one of them was taken down and the strange presence the hooded one gave off. With an almost unseen nod turned to take off down the other darkened streets strangely not panicking. The young pony who was barely out of his teens with a dirty brown mane shakily stood up. "Ohh I didn't think anyone would come save me. You guys are really...heroes." He moved forward a little, eyes darting quickly to the left and then to the right with a shaky smile upon his face. [Kr] "You never have to fear those men again," Skylark said proudly, chest out as he offered a hoof to the lad he was likely younger than. "Are you alright?" [Fe] Lamplight was quiet, scanning the horizon. Something in the current of the magic tonight felt static. Electricity in the air. A spark of unmet challenge. It was odd, like someone tugging at a spider's web, the thin laced tendril of magic upset in the city over everything like a fog that Lamplight could feel, could adjust and move through as her form turned shadow again and she reappeared on a roof nearby. Something... something happening. Something something happened. Something. She couldn't pin the feeling. She waited, trying to ascertain by smell of magic where the next person might be who needed help. Skylark was better at speaking to people. Lamplight to their shadows they imprinted on the walls of every set cobblestone they touched. Negative light filling the crevices of an old city, and leaving tracks to follow other unicorns around. She waited like a radio, for the static to bear a new message, and she'd lead Skylark to the next young something or other. [Zo] He took a look at the offered hoof and then back up at Skylark with a slight smile and nodded his head. "All right? I am more than alright. You came. That was...surprisingly easy. All it cost was one stupid hick pony." As soon as the words were spoke his demeanor changed. He stood up tall with all traces of meekness gone from his face. Rolling his neck about his eyes portrayed a cold detached look with a smile that didn't fit the face. It spoke volumes with without him saying so. Taking one step back he gave a small sigh. "They're over here. Get him!" He shouted into the darkness and like feral rats several earth ponies holding bats with nails stuck in them, chains, broken bottles, anything that they could find, ran out with murder in their eyes. "The bird isn't with them so we can bring them in dead for an easy five million bits. Leave the head intact enough so that he can be identified. We don't want to get screwed out of the prize for being a bunch of reckless assholes." [Kr] "The bird----?" Skylark's eyes narrowed tightly. His voice pulled out in a low, vengeful growl. "Shaker." He didn't hesitate. He understood clearly, and he didn't get here being a pushover. He turned to the nearest pony, smashing his hooves into the bat and sending the hilt into the pony's forehead. He flipped back, bat clenched in his jaws now, swinging it at the next nearest pony. Once he'd cleared enough of a path, he darted down the alleyway toward a dead end. [Fe] Lamplight looked over, cool gaze washing on the gang gathering around Skylark. A single brow was arched in concern, and she vanished again, appearing between Skylark and the small army of thugs with a pomf of smoke and a sound like crushing glass. "Why?" She turned, keeping the gang in her vision but directing the question calmly at Skylark. A fragmented line of magic traced the dark grains of the road, etching lines of purple mist toward the crowd, snaking between their legs as though the world had torn a void to another in small cracks of rock, pinpricks of light hinting at a hidden depth. And then all at once, the rocks burst out, flinging themselves toward the opponents. [Zo] They were caught by surprise at the sudden action of being disarmed and then being struck with the nail bat sent one sprawling into the muck of the alleyway. They didn't want to give up the biggest payday they ever head off and still charged forward...into the oncoming attack of magic propelled rocks that flatted two more against the brick wall. The brown maned pony gritted his teeth and shouted orders at the others to give chase. "Come on guys it's just two kids. Stop messing around and kill them already!" He gave off a high pitched whistle and responding whistles and yells came from the other alleys and streets. The city seemed to suddenly come to life with the feel of malevolence filling the air almost like a thick choking smog. "Keep them from the streets, I dont want the dock workers getting to them first!" [Kr] "They're after Gimmicks." He jumped, hard, wall to wall, ricocheting to the next one until he clambered to the roof with the easy a pegasus might fly there. And as soon as he landed on the shingles, he took off running down the rooftops. "We need the others. Come on!" [Fe] She stopped listening for a moment at the "G___" word. Something happened. A burst of energy shot out from her toward the crowd, parting the mass as a knife to paper, knocking ponies down, barreling through their energy with its own. And then she apparated again, appearing beside Skylark. She levitated herself to each new rooftop he jumped too, otherwise running beside him at a slightly slower pace. "If we head home, it won't be Home anymore." [Zo] The chasing crowd was easily bowled over like trash as the two heroes took to the roof tops. They each cursed loudly at the lost chance knowing that they couldn't get them. Some still tried to chase them to no avail. Shouts calling out to others in range of get to the roofs. The alleyways were a mad scramble to try and keep up with them. Three pegsai finally taking to the air to give chase. One of them wearing a suit similar to the mobster that put the hit out that has the whole city up in arms. "They can't out pace us, Watch the freaky unicorn. Don't need you idiots being done in by her." [Kr] "Stay close to me," Sky said, grabbing the edge of Lamplight's cloak in his teeth to tug her along a little faster than her natural pace. "Chn yuh kep upp?" He clenched hard on the cloak. He worried, knowing she'd used a lot of her magic to part the crowd and give them space. His mind raced. They needed somewhere to go, a way to split up the crowd and get back to HQ. Sky hit the glowing gem on his bracer. [Fe] She looked down at the clasp of her hood as it started to blink alongside his gem. "I'm fine." She looked off into the distance, knowing a green blur would be here soon enough. "Is it safe to draw them out?" [Zo] "This is taking too long. I'm getting the ground pounder and getting paid." The brash voice of one of the pegasi flew higher up in the air. The gangster shook his head moving to hang back and tail them from a proper distance. The brash pegasus stopped his climb and dived towards Skylark like a makeshift ballistic pony missile, hooves out stretched before him. "Damned fool is going to mess this up. I really don't want the boss to take my nuts for this fuck up." The gangster mumbled to himself. He was wondering how far these kids were running and took a quick glance at his surroundings for a few moments. [Kr] "If they are not aware of what's happening, it will be worse for them...." Still, he worried she was right. She often was. He was busy, jumping the rooftops. The attack hit squarely and he tumbled, taking some shingles down with him as he and the ganster rolled into the same alley. Skylark hit a trash bag hard, breaking his fall. He stumbled to his feet, disoriented. [Fe] She kept running, falling forward onto the edge of the roof, grabbing it with a hoof as she rolled over, his grip on her cloak pulling over the edge with him, but allowing her to hang off the gutter instead of fall. She looked down to him, levitating the pegasus who had attacked him and slamming it violently into a wall, then pulling herself up again, onto the roof. She looked down toward Skylark, then around for enemies. [Zo] The snapping of his ribs against the wall ensured that he was out. The crash into the scattered trash cans rang out in the alleyways. It was silent for a few moments before the pounding sound of hooves started to grow closer. A gangly looking unicorn nearly skidded out of the darkness with a rusty corkscrew held in his magic. He saw Skylark and charged at him in desperation. The scrapes and cuts dotting his face told the story of how the streets were this night and how much worse things seemed to shifting to. |
