"... No....?" Callie answered, unsure herself what she wanted anymore. She sat up and pulled herself away from Chrysalis' doting touches and stared down at the sea again, focusing on breathing. "I just... I don't..." Her voice barely above a whisper, she managed to say, "I just... don't belong a-anywhere. And you think that... how do I know anything you say isn't a lie? I-I'm just so tired of being h-hated..." She bit her lip, managing to speak a little louder as she stared hard at Chrysalis. "Just cut the b-bullshit and tell me what you want from me, if it isn't my suffering." |

Changeling Queen
|
Chrysalis only sighed, and allowed herself a brief respite from which she found the words to turn to Callophrys and deliver an answer, eyes half-lidded from weighted regrets. "When I was young, I was not unlike your desires. I was a filly, and I bore upon my flank a mark of everlasting love. Equestria was once ruled by two sisters who each rose a great sphere of light into the sky. The sun, which was banished by our present False-Queen, and the moon, our Queen's remaining icon. Though I came from a distant land, I found myself infatuated with Equestria, and its affections.. but none so much as a cousin of the royal sisters of Equestria; his name was Horizon." She spat the name with half parts malcontent and swooning sigh. "I was gifted wings and a horn. I was born a simply earth foal, my daughter. And with my ascension to godhood, I took on the mantle of love for myself and Equestria's ponies, spreading it inward from our borders to the very heart of the nation: Canterlot. But love is not so unlike the sun and moon. For Harmony, I required a partner, and I thought I'd found one in Horizon." Another wistful sigh, but as she spoke, her voice reached crescendo and then a growl could be heard joining the duality of her voice. "I loved once, Callophrys, my princess. I did not simply take love as a power. I never sought it out. I never required it to feel complete. Until I met him. We changelings feast upon love but only because he drained that emotional magic of me so deeply that I was left hollow." For effect, she lit her horn in green, bathing light that silhouetted her form against the wall behind them, displaying prominently the holes in her hooves and wings. "You see, he was not simply a stallion, but the protégé of the monarch of Hell itself. I did not know his true malice until he had gained enough power during training to strike his own master down and take his place. Can you even imagine that, daughter? A demon strong enough to cast out the devil himself from Hades and send his soul to Tartarus. To be cast both out of your own domain, but also imprisoned within it by your student? Horizon was nothing if not so cruel with irony. And he delivered to me a fate in the same." She got up and paced, stopping before the young changeling. "He used my magic, daughter. I once harnessed artifacts known as the Elements of Harmony and used them to spread my love to Equestria. And he corrupted them, stealing my love and trapping it within the Elements then firing it back at me until I transformed into this form. A changeling. No real body to call my own, nor love within me. Doomed to crave that which no one would ever give me so long as I look like a monster and cursed to spread this same trouble to my offspring." Her dramatic telling nearly over, she let the light of her horn bring the room to a cold glow, then moved back to sit before Callie, her tearful frown pulling into a trembling smile and softened gaze. "What I want from you, daughter, is not your suffering, but your help." |

Callie was silent for a time, taking in the story so well that she could picture it. Chrysalis --- her mother had a way of speaking that enraptured the troubled little changeling. Perhaps it was the way that Chrysalis looked at her, or the way she felt her life gaining understanding.. purpose. So this form was a curse, and in that one instant it all made true sense. She was miserable because she had been doomed from birth to be miserable, and all to appease some supernatural stallion's thirst for darkness... She furrowed her brow, finding herself hating the name - Horizon - almost as much as the Queen before her. Her empathy could feel it within Chrysalis. The hatred that ran from speaking his name was strong within her mother such that Callophrys knew Chrysalis must not be lying; for emotions that strong.. something truly must have happened between them., right? "My... why me?" Her eyes narrowed but she couldn't hide that she empathized with the story. She'd finally found someone who knew just how much it hurt to be hated... Just how sharp it struck at one's heart to feel so starved for something so unsustainable. Callophrys had lived her life in walking contradiction and only now did she feel she had someone who not only felt that pain, but managed to learn to live with it in a way Callie hadn't mastered yet. "You said before that you have other daughters. Other children. So why do you need to ruin my life to situate yours..?" |

"I do not have a large hive. We changelings are born of stolen love, my child. I've been so weakened by Horizon that I've not been able to populate as often as one might hope and nor have our other princesses, though they try to make their own nests. Horizon is allied to Nightmare Moon now, and the two's allegiance has let darkness encase our kind far stronger than before. The King of Death has sought out most of our kind and wiped them from the earth then buried their bones within it. This is why the Inquisition of Equestria's False Queen seeks our kind for heresy and execution. Torture. Experiments. This land torments us because of them. Despite our creation being Horizon's own doing, he's manipulated Nightmare Moon into his service in our extermination." Oh, she could practically grin to herself if it wouldn't spoil the deception. The way Callophrys hung on her every word made her voice croon more. She could not quite feast on faith as well as love, but it tasted so sweet nonetheless. "But you... he could not hurt you. As Horizon kills my children without mercy, and a book he keeps from Hades privileges him with their locations, I feel he would hesitate to hurt his own blood." She smiled sweetly at Callophrys. "My children are born of love. A changeling with a pony full of love for them with which they may grow full again. Even in my present form, Horizon remains the only one I've ever... that I could ever truly adore. Even as he spits upon what I've become, I have enough empathy yet to feel his love for me remains warm, even if it is but a small, dying ember. The last thing we ever did before his curse on me took full hold and I escaped was create you, daughter~" Edited by Queen Chrysalis, Tue May 13, 2014 2:18 pm.

"My..." Callophrys got up, pulling away from Chrysalis and backing until she hit a wall. She shook her head. "He's... m-my... I have.... " She wanted to deny it but didn't it just make perfect sense? It would explain her entire life until this point. Why life itself was cruel to her. Yes... that was it. Life rejected her. And it could all be as simple as that she was born of Death. Death and... she looked at Chrysalis. And Emptiness. A stallion who abandoned life and a mare-turned-monster who was so shattered that love slipped through the cracks no matter how hard she might want to hold onto it. Callophrys felt sick again. She felt the room spinning. Her breath hastening. She closed her eyes tightly to shut out realty. "I-Is that what I am then?" She choked down a sob. "I'm j-just... what... what's my destiny then? Which of you do I take after?! Despair or Darkness?! What do your gifts combine into? Am I just supposed to... fuck! That's why you're here?! To tell me that I'm nothing but born of evil incarnate...? I thought I was a monster. A spooky story told to little foals. And you're telling me that I'm worse... that... I'm of Tartarus. I might as well be any other horror trapped down there then, huh?" She was openly sobbing now, and she lowered her head to let her mane hide her face as she did so. She looked up after a time to glare and sniffle at Chrysalis. "Well thanks, I guess, for creating me, you heartless bitch! Thanks f-for... for making sure my life would suck this bad. Because now I know I don't just have the curse of being a changeling. I'm also a fucking spawn of hell." She broke her anger to sob again into a hoof. She screamed at her mother. "I'm not born of love! This isn't... this isn't love...!" |

Chrysalis crossed the distance between them and pulled Callie into a hug, squeezing the child to her chest as she stroked her mane and let her sob. "I'm so sorry. For all the love I tried to give you, he only sought the same which gave him his cutie mark. He wanted to sever all his ties with me, one changeling soul at a time. But you... I think he would either spare you, or avoid you until it cannot be helped. You are the safest of my children, Callophrys. He will not harm you so easily as the others. And so... I need your help. "I left you here because it would buy you time to grow, mature, and harness your powers. You were safe so long as you were not with me. As long as he could not find you. I only pray he's not caught on to my scent here. So what say you...? Will you help me save our family from him? I require an agent who can traverse Equestria more safely than I, though I know you will find it strange that your situation is considered safe to me by my new standards. I need my princess to do what I cannot, while I distract Horizon and Nightmare Moon from catching our plan." She sniffled, making a show of pretending to cry into Callie's mane as she held her daughter. She smiled now that the filly couldn't see the wicked sneer, only dropping it when she spoke again so that her voice wouldn't retain the thrill from fooling Callie so furiously. "He has not stopped at owning Hades, daughter. Your father... he wants Equestria. It's why he now leads its monarch into a romance. He'll become the King of Equestria then strike down Nightmare Moon and have all of this land in his control to cast into darkness forever. He is already responsible for the sun's demise. Now he will darken the last lights we have. The moon will shatter, and the stars will blink out if he takes the throne. Everyone you know who the Inquisition is already hunting will be found and killed. Anyone who opposes the darkness will die. Nightmare Moon and resistances alike. Innocent people. But first and foremost, anyone associated with me. With you. They will be the first of his victims simply to watch you suffer - his cruelty knows no bounds. He will never lay a hoof on you, daughter. But your friends... if we do not stop him, he will see the end of everything you've ever looked upon for hope. I only wish to ensure he cannot cause this much pain to anyone ever again. He has already taken my love. I do not want you to lose yours." |

Callophrys cried into Chrysalis' coat as her mother spoke more. Her fear and panic grew into stunned silence and shock when her friends were threatened. She thought about what Death might even look like. What kind of demon could ever... kill the Queen? Kill the Queen before this one... take over and destroy the... what was a sun. What did it look like. She tried to imagine the moon shattering but all that she could picture now was Call and Razma and the danger she now posed for them. She had to... to protect them. Saying no meant leaving their fates in the hands of someone who already controlled Hades. Who could unleash Tartarus upon Equestria. Fearfully, for she was no heroine nor savior, she looked up at Chrysalis and let her voice tremble: "Just tell me h-how to help..." |

((Fethur and I wrote this post together to finish the thread off. #credit Just imagine like, the entire linked video as the scene if you want. That sounds more fun than breaking the song up to type actions XD)) Chrysalis pet Callie again affectionately, then pulled back from the hug to lift Callie's chin and admire the way the moon reflected in her daughter's vivid eyes. "I need you to promise to always do what I say, no matter how hard or confusing it seems to be." Callophrys squirmed. "Everything...? But..." "You don't trust me, daughter?" There was little need anymore to hide her domination of the young filly. She was already winning and Callie was already broken. She smiled knowingly. "Or is it that you want to see your friends are safe?" "I don't... I... I trust you... Mother..." Callie tried to smile but she was unable to hold it long for the tears. "Shhh, it's okay. I'm here for you now, darling. Good. Now just do as I say. Everything I say?" Callie thought about Last Call again. He was tough, sure, and even fought off Razma but... there was no way she could expect him to fight off Horizon... "If it means keeping them safe...and... everything you say. Y-Yes." "Then I need you to leave them." Callie's fur stood on end. "L-Leave...?" "See them to your destination then come straight back here to me. We haven't the time to delay, Princess. Horizon's already ahead of us in power and planning." "You... you want me to just LEAVE Call and Razma?! After what I just put Call through?!" "And here I thought you wanted him to be safe..." Chrysalis sighed dramatically. "You still don't trust me, I see. Well, I suppose you can stay with Call if you want to see all the horrible things Horizon will do to him if you associate with him. What Death is capable of doing to anyone near you or I? He's Death. Callophrys. He will not even need to swing a scythe. He will simply write your friend's death into his little book. Any death he can imagine, and it will come true. You and I are only safe because of love. He holds no affection for mortals." Callie hung her head. "I... I don't...... I mean... I--" Chrysalis interrupted, "You still want to go back to your friend? Ugh. Why, Callophrys...! Look at you, a beautiful butterfly~ Still a caterpillar, just a bug! You know he will suffer just as well as I..!" Callie bit her lip. "I know, but--!" "Come back and he'll be safe and sound, dear~ Guess I really should have seen this coming.. Knew that you'd not want to leave your friend. Soon, though not yet--" "But..." "Shh... Trust me, pet~ Mother knows best! Mother knows best, listen to your mother It's a scary world out there Horizon will, one way or another Make something go wrong, I swear! Ruffians, thugs, poison ivy, quicksand! Cannibals! And snakes! Ugh, THE PLAGUE!" "No...!" "YES!" "Wait--" "Also large bugs. Mares with pointy teeth, and-- Stop! No more! You'll just upset me~! Mother's right here, and here you can protect him Darling, don't you dare suggest...!" Chrysalis rolled her eyes. "You can save him. Don't be so dim! Mother knows best! Haha! Mother knows best, take it from your mumsy On your own, he won't survive! Sloppy, super stressed, immature, clumsy? Please! They'll eat you up alive! Gullible! Naive! Positively grubby! Ditzy and a bit, well, hmm... vague! Trust me, sweetie, this'll end up bloody I'm just sayin' cuz I wuv you~ Mother understands. Mother's here to help you~ All I have is one requeeeeest!" She pet Callie's mane again, leaning forward so their horns touched and the gentle green glow of her own covered both their faces in its light. "Callie." Callie squirmed under her touch, releasing the response as barely above a whimper. Something about the magic felt unnaturally cold. "Y-Yes...?" Chrysalis' face hardened. "Don't ever question me again, or your friend is as good as dead already. Do you understand?" She was... it sounded like a threat more than a warning that time, but something about the magic just made another stuttered whimper escape. Callie nodded weakly. "Of course, mother...." Chrysalis softened again. "Shh, there now. Much better. Such a good daughter you are... How your mother loves you~" "I... I'm sorry..." She buried her face in Chrysalis' fur again and closed her eyes, feeling more emotional than usual. "Please d-don't be mad. I won't argue again. Please help me keep everyone safe..." Chrysalis rested her chin on Callie's head and embraced her back, rolling her eyes. As the glow faded from her horn, it would have been evident that the hue remained brightly in Chrysalis' eyes even in the dim lighting. She cooed again between hushing Callie's whimpering. "Shh... hush now. It's okay. I forgive you, pet. We all make mistakes~ Don't forget it~ you'll regret it! Mother knows best~!" Edited by Queen Chrysalis, Tue May 13, 2014 4:18 pm.
